First Scholars Scholarship Fund

presented by First Church "The City"

This scholarship application is open to members of the First Church of God in Columbus, OH and the Columbus metropolitan community. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to community service, and be enrolled full time at an accredited 2-or 4- year college or university. Selected students will be awarded in the 2024-2025 academic year.

Eligibility Requirements

Application window opens May 1, 2024 and will close June 15, 2024 @ 11:59pm

  • 1. Have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale


  • 2. Reside in or be a permanent resident of Ohio at the time of selection


  • 3. Be an active member of a Christian-based church or community-based organization and obtain a leader of recommendation from a leader of said respective congregation or organization.


  • 4. Be accepted to or currently attending any accredited two-year or four-year college or university

  • 1. Applicants must submit via FCOG’s online scholarship application portal by June 15, 2024. All parts of the application must be completed and submitted by the deadline.


  • 2. A letter of recommendation written by a leader of applicant’s respective Christian-based or community-based organization.


  • 3. A legible transcript (official only) with the applicant’s current GPA and a letter of admission to verify enrollment.


  • 4. An essay will be the applicant’s personal statement outlining your service to your church, career goals and how this scholarship will help impact you.


Letter of Recommendation Guidance

  1. One letter of recommendation is required to complete this application. The recommender must be written by a leader of applicant’s respective Christian-based church or community organization. The letter of recommendation must be made through the FCOG online application system and must be received by the application deadline. Letter of recommendations that are emailed or sent to the church will not be accepted.
  2. Applicants should give the recommender ample time to complete the request by entering all the recommender’s information (name and email
